DENVER — Prescribed burn exercise inside Rocky Mountain Arsenal Nationwide Wildlife Refuge north of Denver is making a plume of smoke seen for miles.
Firelighters are asking the general public to not report the smoke to 911.
The prescribed burns on the arsenal started March 4 and can proceed till March 18, climate allowing. The refuge plans to burn as much as 2,836 acres.
In response to a information launch from the refuge, the burns will reinvigorate the expansion of native prairie vegetation, cut back collected vegetation, handle weed management efforts, and enhance habitat to maintain wildlife.
